ACADEMIC ONEFILE

Magazines Online users will be happy to learn that Academic OneFile is being added to the list of databases purchased by the State Library and provided to public, academic, and schools libraries statewide.  Academic OneFile should appear in your Magazines Online database list on January 15.

Academic OneFile, a Gale product, is a leading academic-level product, containing almost 12,000 journals.  Gale decided to add Academic OneFile to our subscription because of the awareness that academic-level material was lacking in the current database list.

The addition of Academic OneFile to the other databases, such as General OneFile, General Reference Center Gold, and Business and Company Resource Center will give a much more powerful research tool.

New Consumer Health Info Toolkit for Public Libraries & Patrons

UNM HSLIC

As an outgrowth of a collaborative project between the UNM Health Sciences Library and Informatics Center and the New Mexico State Library, an online toolkit has been developed to assist New Mexico public libraries with answering health-related questions from their patrons using free, trusted, online health information resources.

In 2009, the Consumer Health Information for New Mexico Public Libraries Project began between the Distance Services Unit of the UNM Health Sciences Library and the New Mexico State Library to address commonly asked health questions posed in public libraries. Following a needs assessment and series of four Webinars on specific health topics, a Web page was created as a toolkit to provide ongoing support and training for New Mexico’s 137 public, tribal, and military libraries and bookmobiles.

This toolkit provides links to free online consumer health resources focusing on general health topics, senior health, drugs/medications/supplements, Spanish language resources, Native American health, where to refer your customers, and funding opportunities.

The Website is available at: http://hsc.unm.edu/library/distance/consumerhealth.shtml
