Agnes Martin : with my back to the world
Documentary Film Screening

Agnes Martin : with my back to the world

introduced by Corrales filmmaker, Mary Lance

Thursday, March 29th, 6:30

2012 celebrates both the New Mexico statehood centennial and the 100th anniversary of the birth of Taos artist, Agnes Martin.

To honor this legendary New Mexican painter, the library will host a screening of Agnes Martin: With My Back to the World. Documentary filmmaker Mary Lance will introduce her hour-long film and be available to answer your questions after the screening.

Lance’s interviews with the famously reclusive artist were shot over a four-year period and give rare insight into her philosophy of art and life. The interviews are intercut with Martin at work in her studio and archival footage and photographs.

Martin’s abstract expressionist paintings, luminous horizontal bands of subtle hues,

are widely collected.

Refreshments will be served and copies of the film will be available for purchase.
